Revolutionary Democracy Organisation condemns in no uncertain terms, the war of aggression launched jointly by the USA and Israel on Iran and Lebanon. In this war, which openly violates all established norms and laws of international relations established at the conclusion of the Second World War, school children and hospitals have been targeted and oil and gas fields have been blown up causing serious environmental damage. Thousands of civilian lives have been lost and the world economy is staring at a major disaster as energy supply lines have been disrupted. It is threatening the livelihoods of millions of people across the globe.

The very recklessness of the war demonstrates the depth of imperialist crisis and desperate attempts to redivide the world. The US attack on Venezuela, the stifling of oil supplies to Cuba, the threat to annex Greenland and Canada, etc. need to be seen as a part of a larger plan to garner control over energy resources of the world. It is also a response to the threat posed to the hegemony of the US dollar in the world economy as US tries to regain complete control over world energy supplies. This is matched by the war the federal government of the USA has been waging against its own people by sending ICE to terrorise cities while ostensibly targeting illegal immigrants. As the US casts away the liberal democratic fig leaf and flexes its military muscle to recover its lost ground, we need to examine more closely the segment of capital which is driving this phase of warmongering at multiple fronts.

With manufacturing having fled the US and its failure to recall investments by weaponizing tariff regimes, US imperialism appears to be driven by a very miniscule section spearheading the Artificial Intelligence and data control based technologies. These energy and fresh water guzzling technologies are also demonstrating their prowess and articulating their needs in this phase of imperialist aggression. This segment of capital has also teamed up with the socially most reactionary forces like racist, patriarchal and casteist, anti immigrant, anti communist and Islamophobic forces. This lays down the basis for a neo fascist movement to capture power both within individual countries as also on the international stage. The Epstein files only reveal the underbelly of this networking.

It is of particular concern that the government of India has openly taken the side of Israel and US, besides expressing solidarity on the very eve of the attack. It should be recalled that this kowtowing has its material basis in the fact that the leading Indian corporate houses have large business dealings with Israel, and also provide technological and logistical support to those war mongers. The Adani group has been producing arms, missiles, anti-missile systems and drones in collaboration with Israeli armament companies and supplying them to Israel. The Adanis are considered very close to the ruling dispensation in India. India is also one of the largest importers of Israeli arms and military and intelligence technology.

The Irani theocratic regime, it may be recalled, was a product of popular upsurge against the stooge of US imperialism, the Pahlavi dynasty in the late 70s culminating in the so called ‘Islamic Revolution’ led by Ayatollah Khomenei. The movement in actual fact was a broad alliance of all democratic forces and ultra conservative religious forces against the US backed regime. Once in power, the theocratic regime rapidly decimated the trade unions, killing, jailing and exiling the communists and advocates of democratic rights for women and minorities. Since then it has been brutally suppressing all movements seeking democratic reforms in Iran. At the same time the theocratic regime has sought to establish a counter to US imperialist presence in the energy epicentre of the world by creating a ring of resistance around Israel by militarising Shia communities in several Middle Eastern countries, and also extending support to the Palestinian cause. This it has accomplished in collaboration with other major players like Russia and China.

Iran’s theocratic regime, thus combines in itself both an anti imperialist aspect and an anti democratic aspect. While outwardly the war may reinforce the theocratic regime as the Iranian people will be forced to support it in its fight against US imperialism, it will also weaken it and this may enable the working people of Iran to gain more democratic rights in the long run. This possibility can be realised only if the working people are able to organise themselves independently under a genuine democratic or communist leadership.

The fact that ten days down the line the Irani regime has been able to sustain its firepower and also convert it into a regional conflagration disrupting supply chains across the globe, tells us that the US and its Israeli ally have grossly miscalculated. The hope of a quick decapitation and regime change in Iran as in Venezuela has been belied and the world is exposed to a long and sustained war in the very source of its energy supplies. This is reminiscent of the stiff resistance put up by the brave Palestinians in the face of the worst forms of oppression and aggression. The fact that mighty imperialist powers are not invincible and they cannot have their way has been clearly demonstrated.

The possibility of defeating the designs of neo-fascist onslaught through determined and imaginative solidarity has been demonstrated by the American people themselves who, in cities like Minneapolis, have repelled the attack of AI driven Trump’s storm troopers. They will be the seeds of a contemporary version of Lenin’s slogan of turning the imperialist war into a revolutionary war.
